How to Remove Wax from Furniture and Carpeting

A candle spill can be a real mess! It is possible to save your furniture and carpet. It takes patience and time but removing the wax is possible and here’s how.

  • Iron, set to medium and progress to warmer if needed
  • Paper towels
  • Old dish rag
  • Butter knife

Step 1: Start by lightly scraping the spot with a butter knife to remove excess wax. The spot will turn white and be more noticeable, but not for long.

Step 2: Lay the paper towel on top of the spot and cover with the old washcloth.

Step 3: Iron the spot by slowly moving it over the towels. I suggest doing this first, if you have trouble removing the wax, take the washcloth off and apply the iron directly to the paper towel. Do this again and again, moving the soiled marks on the paper towel out of the way to start with a clean portion.

Step 4: Inspect the spot.  If it’s gone, you’re good to go. If you have removed the wax and still see a spot, clean the surface with a damp cloth and soap or carpet spray. Use whatever you’d normally use for a stain.

Please take note of your fabric and material when doing this method. Speak with a professional cleaner if you feel like this may cause damage.

Good luck and happy cleaning!
