How to Make an Exfoliating Sugar Scrub

How to Make an Exfoliating Sugar Scrub - Quick, Easy, and Inexpensive.

Sugar scrubs can be expensive at the little shops even though they really aren’t all that difficult to make. This is a really quick DIY gift for friends and family. Who doesn’t love soft smooth skin?

  • 3 Cups sugar
  • 2 Cups olive oil
  • Essential oil – whatever you enjoy

  1. Combine olive oil and sugar in a bowl, stir until evenly distributed.
  2. Add essential oils. I ended up using 10 drops of orange and 10 drops of lavender in mine. I think it depends on the strength, so add a few, stir, and sniff.
  3. Place sugar scrubs in pretty mason jars or glass containers. I used a bit of scrapbook paper and cut a circle to put in between the pieces of the lid.
  4. You’re done!

It’s really easy, the biggest part of the process is acquiring the supplies. This recipe filled 3 8 oz mason jelly jars. I made two batches; orange lavender and citrus with lemon and orange. I think grapefruit would be a nice scent too!

Note: I would skip using Extra Virgin Olive Oil and go for the regular Olive Oil because it is a lighter in color. My scrubs had a green tint to them, which isn’t bad and would even be better if you used peppermint flavoring.  You can also use other types of oil like coconut oil, grape seed, but not plain vegetable oil (I have read that this is not a good oil to moisturize your skin).
