This recipe is for a favorite bread, sometimes it doesn’t last a day at my house! I like to serve it with lasagna, pasta, soups, and salad. Dip the bread in olive oil and spices.
Rosemary Bread
- 1 cup water
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons white sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon dried rosemary
- 2 1/2 cups bread flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Add water and oil to the bread machine pan, add flour followed by dry ingredients. Create a well in the middle and add the yeast. Or follow the directions of your bread machine. Use the dough or white bread setting on your machine.
Option: Use the dough setting on the bread machine. Remove dough from the pan and add to a lightly greased loaf pan, allow to rise for 30 – 40 minutes and bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden brown. I’ve always had the best results with baking the recipe this way. I also prefer the shape of the loaf pan as opposed to the bread machine’s shape.
What’s your favorite bread machine recipe?

I really enjoyed making this simple bread for a beginner like me. Thank you.
Lindsay
Thanks for trying Angela! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Meghan
What size loaf does this make- I really want to make it but I am not sure about the right setting.
Lindsay
Hi Meghan, Thanks for your question! My machine makes 1.5 and 2 pound loaves. With this recipe I would say 1.5 pound. Hope this helps. Let me know how it turns out!
Vicki
I’d like to make this but don’t have a bread machine. What changes do I need to make? Thanks in advance.
Lindsay
Hi Vicki, I have never tried making this without a bread machine. You could add these spices to one of your favorite recipes that you use without a bread machine. Please let me know if you give it a try.
Beverly
I made this bread without bread flour and a bread machine and the result were excellent. Next time I make this bread I will double the recipe.
Lindsay
Thanks Beverly! Glad it worked out for you! 🙂

I guess I should clarify what I wrote above, instead of bread flour I used AP flour. If anyone every made home made bread you know that you have to knead the dough about ten minutes or until the dough is smooth and no longer sticky. Let rise until double in size then punch down, let dough rest about ten minutes then shape into loaf pan. When double in size again bake as recipe say, I baked mine at 350 for about 30 minutes. The bread came out so tender and so delicious!

I came across this recipe on Pinterest and I made it today in my bread machine. It tastes great! This will be my new go-to dish for a potluck or dinner party.
Lindsay
So glad you like it Amber!

I did not have rosemary so I put a little extra Italian seasoning. This was a wonderful recipe – light, fluffy and delicious. Only my third loaf and definitely my best! thanks
Lindsay
Thanks for sharing Patty!

I have a question. If I want to make the bread using the option you gave, when I put the dough in and use the dough option on my machine… Do I pull it out before it’s done or what should I do? Thanks, probably a dumb question. Just unclear!
Alli
I just figured it out, see stupid question 😉

Hello. Is this possible to make without the herbs?
Lindsay
Hi, I don’t see why not but it may be a little bland. You could add your favorite seasonings instead?
Emily
Love, love, love, this recipe!!!! Thank you for sharing it. I made it for a cookout this past weekend and it was a hit;)!! Now I am making two more loaves as requested by our friends for more.
Lindsay
Emily that’s awesome! So glad you love it! 🙂

If I don’t want to make this in the oven, how do u use my bread machine for the whole thing. Can I still use active dry yeast….
Lindsay
I would try using the normal bread settings. The yeast should work.
kelsey
Trying it in my Panasonic bread machine. Using basic setting size large. Fresh rosemary and bread flour. Fingers crossed
Lindsay
Let us know how it works out!

I just had to let you know this bread is FANTASTIC! I have made it several times, and have even served it to guests a few times. They always rave about it! I have been so disappointed in the lack of flavor of many bread recipes I have tried, but this one is so delicious. I make it the way you recommend- dough setting in the bread machine, and then finish in the oven. It comes out with a nice, hard crust and soft inside. Perfect.
Lindsay
Ali I’m so glad!!!!
Nancy
What size loaf pan do I use? Thank you!
denise
I have fresh rosemary not dried will this still work?
Lindsay
Hi Denise,
Absolutely fresh rosemary would work! I would use a little more though.

After using the bread machine on dough setting, and when allowing it to rise before placing in the oven– do you cover it?
Lindsay
Hi Leah, I would cover it when you allow it to rise but do not cover it when you bake it.

Hi! I added a link to this recipe on my latest blog post! Can’t wait to try this!

I know this post is old, but I just wanted to say that I really enjoy this bread! I found it on pintrest and come back to it often when I am making soups! Thank you for the recipe~
Lindsay
Thank you Ashley! I’m so glad you enjoy it! Your comment is really appreciated. We love it in our house and make it often!

Wonderful! Made this today to go with a yummy beef stew–perfect combination for a chilly rainy evening. Made it entirely in my Zojirushi bread maker. Used all-purpose flour, since I didn’t have bread flour, but will make it again with bread flour, since I detected a little elasticity. Only used 1/4 tsp GROUND rosemary (Penzeys), but doubled the Italian seasoning (also Penzeys) to 1/2 tsp. Thank you for a great recipe! PS. Don’t let the lack of bread flour keep you from trying this recipe. It’s a keeper.

What setting did you use on your bread machine? I wanted to try making this in mine (brand new, same machine), but am still so new to using it for baking too…
Lindsay
I use the basic white bread setting. All machines are different, so it might be a good idea to compare it to the recipes that came with the machine and see what is most similar and what settings go along with it.

Just gotta tell you that this is my new favorite bread! It’s so tasty & smells so good when it bakes. Thanks!
Lindsay
Hi Jen! I’m so glad to hear that! Enjoy!!!
Amy
This is a great recipe. I changed it up the second time & tried coconut oil instead of olive oil & my family liked it that way too. Thanks for sharing.

Hi, just wanted to say thank you for this recipe. I use it as is or without the black pepper, (I don’t like the taste much, but hubby does) as a bread to serve wth dinner. Without the spices it makes an excellent white sandwich bread. Sometimes I add a 1/2 cup of 10 grain cereal to it for a bit more texture and fiber. I buy my 10 grain cereal from an Amish bulk food store and find that I don’t have to add any extra water nor decrease the flour. I don’t know if this would work for other types though.

Suggestions for making this at high altitude (6000 ft)?
Thank you!
