Making a recipe that calls for brown sugar but the cupboards are bare? I came across this problem when I made chocolate chip cookiesbut making brown sugar is very easy if you have white sugar and molasses.
Light Brown Sugar
- 1 Cup white sugar
- 1 Tablespoon molasses
Dark Brown Sugar
- 1 Cup white sugar
- 2 Tablespoon molasses
In a mixer, beat sugar and molasses on medium. Keep the mixer going until the sugar becomes light, fluffy and the molasses has evenly distributed.
Now you’re ready to bake!

Is there a time where this would go bad? Could I just make it in advance and keep in in a container like I normally do with brown sugar? I never knew it was that easy to make! I may never buy it again!

If you store it in an air tight container it should last a while just like the store bought sugar. It really is so easy to make.
