Today Kathy is talking about the importance of breakfast and provides a ideas for a quick breakfast.
We have often heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I have found that to be true. After going all night without food, your body needs a boost to start your day. Proteins, whole grains and fruits can give you the fuel that you need to get through the morning. They stay with you throughout the morning and help avoid snacking and overeating at you next meal. Eating breakfast increases your metabolism and helps to burn more calories.
Many people like to skip breakfast because they are saving calories hoping to lose weight. In fact the opposite usually happens. People are more likely to gain weight instead of losing it. Picking up sugar snacks before lunch or overeating at lunch.
I don’t take a lot of time in the morning for breakfast because I would rather sleep a little more. I started making my breakfast the night before. I make different egg substitute or egg whites sandwiches on whole wheat toasted bread, english muffin or sandwich thins.
I may make the egg with spinach, diced tomatoes, celery, onions, what ever I have in the kitchen or may have a craving for. I may put a slice or two of canadian bacon on it and sprinkle it with cheddar cheese. After putting them together, I just put them in lunch bags. When I want one, I pull it out, wrap it in a paper towel and microwave it for about 30 seconds. It is that easy! I make 3 or 4 of them at a time and use them for the week. I also make several servings of steel-cut oatmeal and put it in individual containers. I just pull one out and microwave that for about 1 minute. If you don’t have the time, stock the fridge with fresh fruits, yogurt, and/or protein bars. Make sure you have something in the fridge that is a “quick and go” meal for those days you may be running late.
Making food ahead of time is so convenient and it can also save you money. When you have your breakfast already made, you don’t need to stop at a fast food restaurant. Healthier food and much cheaper.
Eating breakfast is the way to start off the day. There are so many different options, you don’t need the excuse “I didn’t have time”. See if you like my breakfast sandwich or try one of your own.
