Eating whatever you want and not worrying about whether it is healthy or not is a tough habit to break. Most of us give into the temptation of a juicy burger with fries or deep fried foods when we are out or how about dessert? Maybe the mindless eating when watching television or reading a book. We all have done it and me… more than most! So many times we eat for what we want and not for what will fuel our bodies.
What is the reason why you eat? If I am honest with myself, I eat because I enjoy it, I used to feel it helps relieve stress and it makes me feel better. Well for the time being. Then the guilt takes over. Why did I give into the temptation?
Being aware of why I eat made it easier to work on the problem. I think exercise is the best way to work on stressful eating. I just think exercise gives you that little “high” that makes you feel better. I am a much happier person when I get outside and walk or run. I also like having that little bit of time to myself. It is better for me and I would say it is better for everyone around me.
Remember the reason we need to eat is for nutrition. Is what you are eating healthy, does your body need it? Look at all of the foods that you can put into your body that are healthy! I was off blood pressure medication within 2 months of eating healthier. It is wonderful not taking any medication for medical conditions that can be controlled by healthier eating.
I know that I usually get somewhat lazy and eat the same things. The same vegetables, the same proteins, the same fruits. I love reading articles about everything that is in a particular food. Who would ever thing that raspberries are some of the healthiest fruits that you can eat? How about sweet potatoes? The possibilities are endless!Kathy is a contributing writer at Lindsay Ann Loft.
